Australia 'in discussions' with US over Manus Island naval base expansion












Addressing reports that Australia will work alongside the US to expand the naval base on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea, PNG Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel told Australian journalist Bill Code "there is no definite agreement" and "just discussions at this stage." The decision comes amid rising concerns over China's influence in the region.
